The\nleaders of today need to be able to unleash the innate power of people to find\nsustainable solutions for the global challenges we face today. This often\nrequires making decisions in complex or ambiguous environments, understanding\ncultural nuances and adapting one\u2019s style accordingly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As people are the most valuable assets of organizations, they must optimize these assets to deliver on the needed results&nbsp;. Today\u2019s leaders need to be able to operate with ambiguity and complexity. This demands specific behaviours and competencies to be successful as a leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right Management and Tucker International partnered on a unique study to\nhelp multinational clients address the challenges associated with developing\nleaders with global responsibilities. This first-of-a-kind study is truly breakthrough\nas it identifies the cultural competencies needed for global leaders to be\nsuccessful, and it also predicts what success looks like when these\ncompetencies are present and well developed. They studied the competencies of 1,867\nleaders of 13 nationalities between April of 2010 and December of 2011. &nbsp;In this study, a wide variety of businesses\nwere included, from mid-size firms to Fortune 100 organizations and some 134\nindustries were represented. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why successful leaders need coaching competencies\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aCEibyhgiQw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=https:\/\/trainingcoachingsquare.be\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The study identified six essential competencies required for leadership\nsuccess, especially for global leaders who operate across cultures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competency 1: Social adaptability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This competency represents a leader\u2019s ability to socialize comfortably\nwith new people in unfamiliar social situations and to demonstrate genuine\ninterest in other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competency 2: Demonstrating Creativity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncompetency represents a leader\u2019s ability to enjoy new challenges, strive for\ninnovative solutions to social and situational issues, and learn from a variety\nof sources. This quality includes the ability to see around corners, predict\noutcomes and act despite uncertainty.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competency 3: Even disposition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncompetency represents a leader\u2019s ability to remain calm, not be critical of himself\nor others and to learn from mistakes. In good times and especially in bad times,\npeople in an organization look to their leaders for guidance. Those leaders who\nmaintain an even disposition in the face of change or in difficult times set\nthe tone for an organizational culture that is resilient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competency 4: Respecting beliefs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncompetency represents a leader\u2019s ability to demonstrate respect for the\npolitical and spiritual beliefs of people, whether they are from the same\nculture or from a different culture. &nbsp;It\nalso includes a good sense of humor, which is an underestimated and underappreciated\naspect of local and global leadership. Leaders who can use appropriate humor in\nstressful situations involving political or spiritual differences can diffuse\ntensions and loosen things up for more successful problem solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competency 5: Instilling trust<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncompetency represents a leader\u2019s ability to build and maintain trusting\nrelationships. Trust is the glue that holds teams together. Building and\nmaintaining trust across organizations and across cultures is a complicated\nprocess because trust does not mean the same thing for different people from\nthe same or from different cultures. A successful leader takes the time to\nunderstand the personal and cultural differences among their people in order to\nbuild and maintain trust in appropriate ways. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Competency 6: Navigating ambiguity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncompetency represents a leader\u2019s ability not to become frustrated by vagueness\nand uncertainty but to see through it, and figure out how things are done in different\nteams, different countries and different cultures.
